Kang Yatse II, towering at 6,250 meters in Ladakh’s Hemis National Park, is one of the highest trekking peaks in the region and a standout feature of the Markha Valley Trek. The trek begins in Leh and offers breathtaking views of the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus rivers, alongside encounters with unique wildlife such as Bharal (Blue Sheep), Ladakhi Urial, and marmots. By the second day, the majestic peak of Kang Yatse II comes into view as trekkers navigate the rugged, dry terrain of the Markha Valley. Along the way, trekkers are rewarded with glimpses of ancient monasteries, stupas, and prayer flags that enrich the cultural experience. Summit day is particularly demanding, requiring basic mountaineering skills to ascend 1,200 meters in one go, while on trekking days gradually gain 500- 600meters in altitude daily, reaching base camp at 4,950 meters. Another highlight of the trek is the Kongmaru La Pass at 5,250 meters, offering panoramic views of Kang Yatse I, Kang Yatse II, and Dzo Jongo. The descent from the pass takes trekkers through deep gorges, water crossings, and vibrant geological formations, making this trek a memorable and challenging adventure.
