Dzo Jongo East 6250m expedition is an exciting blend of Himalayan trekking and high-altitude mountaineering, set in the breathtaking landscapes of Ladakh’s Markha Valley. This journey offers a progressive and well-acclimatized approach, beginning with a scenic drive from Leh to Sara village, followed by a gentle introduction to trekking as the route winds through traditional villages like Markha and Hankar. Along the trail, trekkers experience dramatic terrain—frozen rivers, ancient monasteries, towering geological formations, and vibrant wildlife such as blue sheep, Himalayan griffons, and lammergeiers. As the route ascends towards Thachungtse and the high pastures of Nimaling, the views become increasingly majestic, dominated by the imposing presence of Kang Yatse. Day 1 Arrival in Leh

Upon arrival in Leh, check in at your hotel and take the day to rest and acclimatize to the high altitude. In the evening, head out to visit Shanti Stupa, Tsemo Monastery and Leh Market. Overnight stay at Deluxe Hotel.

Day 2 Sightseeing Day

Today, visit the monasteries that offer a profound window into Ladakh’s Buddhist heritage. Hemis Monastery, the largest and wealthiest in the region, is famed for its annual Hemis Festival and its majestic setting amid rugged hills. Thiksey Monastery, often compared to Tibet’s Potala Palace, rises dramatically on a hilltop and houses a magnificent 15-meter statue of Maitreya Buddha, offering panoramic views of the Indus Valley. Overnight stay at Deluxe Hotel.

Day 3 Alchi & Lamayuru Monastery

On this day, we’ll enjoy a scenic drive through Ladakh, visiting the 1,000-year-old Alchi Monastery, renowned for its ancient art and serene atmosphere. Continuing onward, we head to Lamayuru, famous for its dramatic, moon-like landscapes—often called Moonland. Along the way, we’ll pause at stunning viewpoints, including the iconic confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers, where the two mighty waterways meet. The day concludes with an overnight stay at a hotel in Leh.

Day 4 Leh - Hamurja Drive & Trek to Markha

Time: 3-4 hrs trek
Distance: 14km
Elevation: gain/ loss: +300m
In the morning, we drive across a wide, barren plain along the Indus River until we reach its confluence with the Zanskar. From here, the road curves sharply, leading us into the Zanskar Valley. We continue driving alongside the muddy Zanskar River until we arrive at Chilling. Along the way, we’ll stop to view ancient rock art dating back to the Iron Age and Bronze Age. After visiting these sites, we continue our journey to Hamurja. From Hamurja, we begin our trek toward Markha, taking short breaks for tea and lunch. The trail to Markha is moderately easy and involves crossing the Markha River several times; however, a footbridge now makes these crossings simpler. Markha is a sizeable village with an old fort perched on the hillside and a small monastery. We will spend the night in a campsite near the village3744m.

Day 5 Markha to Thochungste Camp

Time: 6-7 hrs trek
Distance: 15.5km
Elevation: gain/ loss: +486m
Markha, the largest village in the valley with more than 20 families, depends heavily on tourism. Many of the men work as horsemen, the women manage homestays for visitors, and the younger generation often serves as trekking guides. Today, we begin our journey from Markha to the Thochungste campsite, enjoying breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains over the next two days. The trail to Hankar is mostly gradual, passing through the small village of Umlung. After Hankar, the path becomes slightly steeper in a few sections before finally reaching our campsite at 4,230 meters. Overnight stay at camp.

Day 6 Thachungste to Dzo- Jongo Base Camp via Nimaling

Time: 5-6 hrs trek
Distance: 12km
Elevation: gain/ loss: +400m
You pass several mani (stones with prayer inscriptions) walls and suddenly come across a small pond. The view is wonderful from here - both of Kang Yatse, whose bulk gets reflected in the still waters of the lake, after taking good break at lake we will continue our trek to Nimaling where we had a lunch and another 1 hour trek to Dzo Jongo Base Camp 4900m.

Day 7 Buffer Day / Rest Day

Day 8 Base Camp - Summit - Base Camp

Time: 10- 12 hrs trek

Elevation: gain/ loss: +1350m/ -1350m
In Leh, your guide will provide a detailed briefing about the Dzo Jongo peak, including the required climbing gear and current snow conditions. The peak is non-technical, making it suitable for trekkers with basic mountaineering experience. The average time to reach the summit is around 6–7 hours, with a 3–4 hour descent back to camp. The route includes a few short glacier sections, and from the summit, you'll be rewarded with stunning panoramic views of majestic peaks like Kang Yatse I, Kang Yatse II, and several others.

Day 9 Base Camp to Chokdo to Leh via Kongmarula 5200m pass

Time: 6 hrs trek + 2hrs drive
Drive to Leh Distance: 14 km
Elevation: gain +400 / loss: -1900
Nimaling serves as a vital highland pasture for the herders of Markha Valley, accommodating their sheep, goats, yaks, and horses during the summer months. Situated amidst towering mountains exceeding 6000 meters, Nimaling not only sustains the villagers' agricultural lands but also serves as their primary water
source. Amidst its rugged beauty, wildlife like wolves, foxes, and wild goats roam freely. Trek from Nimaling to the Kongmarula Pass at 5200 meters typically takes 2-3 hours. From the pass's summit, trekkers are treated to sweeping panoramic vistas of surrounding valleys.Following the descent into the valley below, adventurers several stream crossing reach Chokdo village, where a waiting car transports them back to Leh.
